I am an Associate Professor of Sociology at Smith College in Northampton, MA, studying mass media, digital culture, emotions, the self, and collective memory. I have written two books on these subjects, The Digital Departed (2023, NYU Press) and Consuming Catastrophe (2016, Temple University Press).

I previously taught in the Department of Communication at Hamilton College, the Writing Program at Princeton University, and the Sociology departments at Queens College and Hunter College.

I have a PhD in sociology from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
